Copyright protects your work and stops others from using it without your permission. You automatically get copyright protection when you create:
You can mark your work with the copyright symbol (©), your name and the year of creation. Whether you mark the work or not doesn’t affect the level of protection you have. Copyright prevents people from:

"So you've created an original piece of work; be it music, web content, illustration, photograph etc."
"You now own the copyright to this but, as there's not an official government backed register, how can you take measures to protect it?"
"Being able to show when it was created will help you to prove it's your work in the event of a dispute."
"That's where we come in. As an independent witness to verify when the original work was registered."
If someone copies your original work without your permission then they are breaching your copyright of that material.
The problem you have is proving when you originally produced the work in dispute.
That's where we can help. When you upload your original creation to our servers it is immediately date and time stamped.
You are issued with a certificate to prove your registration of that file together with the date and time it was issued. If your copyrighted material is on-line you can also use one of our 'Copyright Registered' images.
If you decide to take legal action then we can provide you or your legal representative with independent evidence to help your case.
We recommend that you register your original work with us before you make it public.
"This is an easy to use service - the whole process takes just minutes"
"Registering your original work doesn't cost a fortune"
"Your copyrighted materials are backed up on our secure server"
"Full certification provided"
If your copyright is breached then being able to prove when you created the original work can strengthen your case.
In the first instance you should contact the other party and inform them that the work in question is copyrighted by you and that it is also registered. Request that they immediately remove/cease to use the work. An example format will be provided for you.
Experience has shown that, in most cases, this is all that is required.
Should you decide to take civil legal action then we can provide your legal representative with your original file and the exact date and time it was registered with us.
